WP OPEN CARTRIDGE FORK FROM 2008 TO 2020 XPLOR
WP has used this fork for many years on many bikes from 125cc to 1290cc with few changes. Basically the same fork.
Stock-Bottoming Resistance: RATING 6
Known for blowing through the travel in a high speed hit. Ride hard they will bottom hard, felt in the wrists and audibly with a clank.
Modified-Bottoming Resistance: RATING 10
They can now be built with bottoming resistance on par with any fork, including the closed chamber motocross forks.
Stock-Compliance - Plushness: RATING 10
Open cartridge forks have a reputation for being the plushest fork design.
Modified-Compliance - Plushness: RATING 8.5 to 10 Dependent upon set up requested
Stock-High speed racing performance: RATING 5
The lack of bottoming resistance is not conducive to high speed racing. Additionally the open chamber design if raced at a high intermediate to pro level, in high speed whoops for example, can make the forks cavitate losing damping momentarily.
Modified-high speed racing performance: RATING 8
With the bottoming resistance taken care of, this reduces the fork to occasional cavitation as the only negative.
We have placed top 5's in Worc's races in the pro II class with these very forks.
Stock-Enduro racing performance: RATING 7
Modified-Enduro racing performance: RATING 10
We have placed top 5 in EnduroCross championship, pro class, with these forks.
RELIABILITY: RATING 10
Out of the box the sweet spot for these forks is single track 1st through 3rd gear and riding at an easy pace if at higher speeds.
Install the correct springs and enjoy.
With our design these forks can perform at a higher level than owners, most tuners, and the factory themselves are aware.
Give my parts back!
WP removes important damping components, and calls it Xplor.
Many amateur riders may never notice a difference except the clickers no longer have a viable range of adjustment.
WHATS MISSING ?
The compression adjusters at the bottom of the fork. The mid valve in one of the forks is gone, including the piston, shims, damper adjuster needle, and more. One of the cartridges has holes drilled in it further decimating damping control.
This fork can be brought back from the dead by simply replacing the parts, then we can start the build. Add about $250 to the tab!
