Although these springs are harder to make and more expensive the advantages on the DesertX are many.
 
1.  These variable rate springs will have a larger range when adjusting spring pre-load in case you add bags and or passenger.
 
2.   In addition your shock will last considerably longer because the spring slows the compression stroke down in a steady controlled manner. Reducing heat, and wear.
 
3. These springs will perform better on road and trail. The rear will be plusher but if you hit an unexpected bump or pot hole the consistent and formidable increase in firmness will keep the rear from going so deep into the stroke.
When the rear of the Duc goes too deep the oem spring will overpower the rebound circuit and the rear end will kick upwards, sometimes aggressively.
